Submissions
We read every pitch. We reply only to the ones we are taking forward.
What We Are Looking For
Stories that feel local, specific, and earned. Reported pieces on culture, fashion, music, style, politics, or community — especially stories rooted in New York or written by New Yorkers abroad. Personal essays welcome when the frame is bigger than the author. Photography stories welcome when the images would carry the piece even without text.
What We Are Not Looking For
- Press releases, listings, or promotional copy.
- AI-generated writing at any level of assistance beyond basic grammar check.
- Unsolicited finished pieces longer than 400 words. Pitch first.
- Hot-takes on news cycles that will be stale by Friday.
How to Pitch
Email erwin@centonestudios.com with the subject line Pitch: [Working Title]. Include:
- A two-to-three-paragraph summary of the story and why now.
- Two or three links to your previously published work, or a portfolio.
- A one-line bio.
Rates & Rights
We pay on acceptance and on publication, depending on scope, with rates confirmed before work begins. We acquire first-publication rights for one month, non-exclusive thereafter. Photography and illustration assignments are commissioned separately; brand partnership enquiries go here.
Response Time
We aim to reply to taken-forward pitches within two weeks. If you have not heard from us in three, consider it a no and feel free to place the piece elsewhere.
